Contemporary Paintings and Prints
Since 1997, Carranza has mounted numerous exhibits of
her work. While she has a loyal following in the Los
Angeles area, her work is collected and admired by art
aficionados around the country. Her work has been
published many times in national magazines including
Latina Magazine and Art in America. Carranza has been
commissioned for several advertising campaigns,
including Mitsubishi Motors, Wescom Credit Union,
Nordstrom, and the San Antonio Winery. Her works manifest her abiding concern with color, beauty, and meaningful expression that elicit an almost palpable intimacy between the observer and the painter.

"I was completely mesmerized by Irene's combination of bold colors and sinuous forms when depicting the figures of women who happen to be the central themes in much of her work. I could see the influence of Mexican artists like Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in her style and iconography, and also noticed how her independent voice as an artist emerged quite distinctly in her imagery. Given that I teach a class at UC Santa Barbara titled Chicana Art and Feminism, I realized I needed to include her work in the course"s curriculum. I believe her art powerfully speaks of the concrete and spiritual realities experienced by women in this new millennium. Her skill as a painter and draughtswoman also breathes new life and sensuality to her female subjects. Since our meeting in San Antonio, I have collected Irene's material for my classes and maintained contact with her so I can closely follow her career through the numerous exhibits and commissions she has secured in the past years.
